Shari-Ann Murphy, founder of The PAWS Training Group is a published author and behavior specialist. She trains dogs according to dog psychology. Dog obedience training and dog psychology are entirely different approaches. Dog psychology means learning how dogs think, learn, and react to their environment and applying that knowledge to re-teach and rehabilitate your dog so it can survive in the human world. Once you understand the “why”, you can provide your dog with the “when, how, and where”. These methods allow you to better enjoy life with your dog because they provide you with comfort and control.
We believe in being flexible with training methods. We are a full-services organization; offering dog sitting, training, home appointments, pet first aid & CPR certification courses. Each of our classes are personalized for each of the students who attend. We want you to be comfortable and to ask questions. We want to hear your success stories or your challenges! Let us help you in every aspect of your life as a pet parent. People learn in different ways, we make sure that everyone leaves classes with the tools they need to continue working with their dog to achieve success.
Our training is based on rewards, learn to earn, and positive associations. We deploy pain and intimidation free methodologies to achieve our goals. Put Shari’s 27 years of experience to work for you and remember that “Dogs are our passion.”

Shari started PAWS in 1998 with reasonably priced, flexible home appointments in mind. Her specialty is dogs who are reactive, anxious, and aggressive. Shari uses positive reinforcement, patience, and guidance to teach dogs how to view the world in a less threatening way. Her methods allow a dog to break out of their current choices and make better decisions for themselves and you. Shari has worked through problems that others have given up on.
Shari is fluent in “the language of dog” and will teach you how to “speak” to your furry companion. She will help you better understand your dog and guide you to a deeper understanding of your relationship with them. She has spent years educating the public on responsible dog ownership. In addition to teaching classes, rehabilitating dogs, fostering, training camps, home appointments, and volunteer work, Shari has found the time to author 3 books. Please visit our "Publications" page for more information about Shari's books and where to find them.
